Ross County 2 Clyde 1
Kenny Gilbert scored a contender for goal of the season to help steer Ross County to a vital home victory over Clyde.
Gilbert, back from injury, broke the deadlock in the 74th minute when he picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and fired in a shot which flew high into the net.
Irish teenager Conor Gethins added a second goal for County five minutes later before Leigh Hinds pulled one back for the Bully Wee to make for a nail-biting finale.
County boss Neale Cooper said: "Kenny was immense for us. It was like having a major new signing in the team. He took his goal really well. It was a tremendous strike.
"He has really lifted the rest of the lads since his return and has instilled the kind of enthusiasm that was lacking earlier in the season."
Cooper was also full of praise for keeper Tony Bullock. He said: "Tony had an excellent match. His save from Brian Crawford at the end was in the Gordon Banks mould."
Clyde's Bryn Halliwell was the busier of the keepers earlier on.
The former Wimbledon custodian got down well to stifle a snapshot from Alex Bone in the 15th minute and smother another effort from Gethins, who had replaced Karim Boukrra in the 33rd minute.
At the other end, Bullock brilliantly turned away a curling free kick from Brian Carrigan as Clyde came back into the game.
After Gilbert had given County the lead and Gethins had doubled the advantage following a Hugh Robertson corner, there looked to be no way back for the visitors.
But Clyde were given a lifeline through some slack defending by the County defence which allowed Hinds a clear run-in on goal to beat Bullock from 12 yards.
Clyde piled on the pressure until the final whistle but the nearest they came was Crawford's downward header five minutes into injury time which Bullock somehow got a hand to.
Clyde manager Alan Kernaghan said: "I couldn't fault the team today because they played really well and created a lot of chances. I thought we were very unlucky not to come away with at least a point."
The win puts County in a strong position for First Division survival--four points clear of basement side Raith and with three games in hand.
