| Comments | Match Report Report from the Press & Journal. Partick Thistle 1 Ross County 1 Hugh Robertson switched from training ground to playing field to provide a stunning free-kick which brought a huge smile to the face of manager Neale Cooper and backslaps from his teammates. For this wonder strike provided the point which keeps County in joint third top spot with Arbroath. Cooper said afterwards: "Hughie's goal was fantastic. He does that every day in training but not often enough in games." It was no wonder Cooper was pleased at the outcome against Partick who will surely step up to the Premier League. Thistle manager John Lambie has told his players to stay away from the ground today--and some of them until Thursday--as he reckons they are tired. But that should take nothing away from County who have now gone 11 games unbeaten. Indeed, it was County who cut out the first chance of the match when that man Robertson found Brian Irvine, only for his header to go over the bar. But with Partick striker Martin Cameron wanting to prove his worth following his recent signing, it meant County goalkeeper Tony Bullock was twice forced into early action. Cameron was still at it early in the second half when Kenny Gilbert was on hand to clear off the line. But it was County who stunned the home crowd when they opened the scoring after 78 minutes. Irvine was up front and aiming to cause a problem for the Partick defence when he was knocked over by Scott Paterson. And from the free-kick Robertson sent his unstoppable drive into the net. Just a minute later, however, Partick were back on level terms when Paul Walker created the opening for Martin Hardie to drive in his 16th goal of the season. Cooper added: "Partick will win the league, for they have been the most consistent and best team. But I am happy that our unbeaten run has been extended. We were second bottom at the turn of the year." Partick boss Lambie said: "We lack the fluency we had earlier in the season. The double headers against Inverness and Dundee and the game against Rangers has taken its toll. "The players need to get away and rest. No one will be in on Monday. Some will come in for a light session on Tuesday but three or four will not come in until Thursday." |
