| Comments | Match Report Report from the Daily Record. Ross County 3 Berwick Rangers 1 Furious Keeper Gary O'Connor insisted he didn't deserve the red card that cost Berwick their unbeaten away run. Ref Brian McGarry sent last man O'Connor packing and awarded a penalty when he appeared to cut down two-goal County hero Steve Ferguson five Minutes before the break. The decision turned the game and the keeper said: "I got to the ball before I made contact with Ferguson, so I feel angry about the whole thing. "Even the photographer behind the goal agreed that I had taken the ball fairly. "The upsetting thing is that we had been matching County up until then." Defender David Beaton took over in goal and was an immediate hero as he saved Ian Maxwell's spot-kick, but Berwick manager Paul Smith said: "There was no way back after the red card. I back my keeper 100 per cent, but I have no doubt it cost us the game." Berwick hadn't lost away all season but County--without a win in their three previous home games--took full advantage of O'Connor's dismissal. However, their win came at a cost as Franck Escalon limped off with a hamstring injury and Garry Wood was carried off suffering from damaged ligaments. But just seconds after the re-start Billy Ferries proved he was back to his best following injury with a lob into the area to Ferguson who drove the ball low past Beaton. Ten minutes later a Ferries cross was headed on by sub Neil Tarrant for Ferguson to nod his second. Ferries then set up Tarrant for No.3 before Paul Forrester fired a late consolation goal. County manager Neale Cooper praised Ferguson, saying: "Steve usually fits into midfield, but he loves playing up front." Cooper fear Wood could be out for weeks, but he said: "It's bad luck, but it's up to the boys such as Garry Higgins, who we signed from Montrose, to take their chance." |
