| Comments | Match Report Report from the Daily Record. Brechin City 0 Ross County 1 Cocky Neil Tarrant has exorcised the spirit of Derek Adams at Ross County and now he is vowing to top the scoring charts. The 19-years-old Darlington kid ended Brechin's undefeated run of 15 games with his 12th goal of the season. It was a real smash and grab raid by the Dingwall side, but the win sees them move three points ahead of the Glebe Parkers at the top. Tarrant joined County During last season and has seized his chance to star at the club since hitman Adams joined Motherwell earlier this season. And the sure-fire Englishman intends to live up to the hype by continuing his hot streak. He said: "I set my sights for ten goals by Christmas at the start of the season and now I want to be the top scorer in the league by the end of the season. "I believe I can get at least 20 goals because I am getting brilliant service from all areas of the park. "When I first arrived at the club I knew I couldn't just walk into the team, I knew it would take some time for me to get a chance. "I played a few games when I first joined, but then I got injured, which set me back a few months. "I twisted my knee against Berwick but then I came back and scored three goals towards the end of last season. "I work hard on pre-season training and the gaffer said I was his number one striker after Derek Adams. "Now I am on fire and feeling really confident. If you can't be confident after scoring 12 goals, then there is something wrong." Tarrant scored the winner in the 20th minute when Stuart Garden blundered when he failed to hold on to a Billy Ferries free kick. Giant defender Ian Maxwell was first to react and his cutback found Tarrant lurking to fire home from 14 yards. Brechin who were left reeling after dominating the whole game, but lacking punch in front of goal. City's Jamie McKellar and Roddy Black both found themselves through on goal in the first half, but squandered their chances. Black and McKellar again fluffed further chances in the second half and Scotland's remaining undefeated record went. Tarrant added: "I was glad I scored the winner in such an important game as this. "The camaraderie in the dressing room is brilliant and the other players love me because I am English. "They are brilliant and I give them a lot of stick back. "I definitely think we'll win the title because we have class throughout." For County boss Neale Cooper, it was sweet revenge after Brechin's previous visit to Dingwall when they took the points after the Highlanders had dominated the game. At the time, Cooper refused to shake hands with Brechin boss John Young after the game because of his frustration of losing, despite dominating. Cooper said; "We were very unlucky not to win the last game. I was upset after it because we had dominated the game, but that's football. "I admired a team who can have a record of 15 games unbeaten, but they will be reeling after not taking their chances this time because they played very well. "It was a day of guts and determination and we also had a lot of good fortune." Young said: "It is disappointing to lose the record, but we have played a lot worse this season and have won matches." |
