| Comments | Match Report Report by Alasdair Fraser for the Daily Record. Ross County 6 Berwick Rangers 0 Neale Cooper is not sure if he has signed Superman or Russ Abbot's Cooperman. But the Ross County boss knows for sure that new striker Paul Kinnaird will have his troops laughing all the way to the Third Division title. Cooper was left gobsmacked when he saw his former Dunfermline team-mate's super-human physique. And 32-year-old Kinnaird's dressing room comedy act has also made a major impression at Victoria Park. After an impressive debut, which saw County utterly outclass bedraggled Berwick, Cooper said: "Paul has come straight into the side and looked different class. "He has immense experience and will take us to a new level with the way he creates for the players around him. "The boys all love him, too--there has been instant rapport. He walked into the changing room and started ripping into his new team-mated straight away. "He is possibly one of the funniest guys I have ever met in the game and had us all in stiches from the start. The first day he was loud. The second day he was very loud!" But cooper knows that class-act Kinnaird, whose varied career has also taken him to Dundee United, Motherwell, Partick and Ayr, also has a deadly serious side to his nature. Cooper added: "He has calmed down in a lot of ways since I knew him as a footballer. He is now so fit and strong--I've never seen a physique like it. "His whole attitude to football has changed but he has retained the good side to his game--the skill, creativity and the arrogance. "That, I hope, will rub off on the rest of my team, including the strikers who are all pretty young and relatively inexperienced." Kinnaird was delighted with his debut but highlighted the great team spirit coursing through the county ranks. He said: "I've joined a superb wee club and I think I will really enjoy the style of football here. "Neale Cooper likes his team to play good football and that suits me perfectly. There is a hell of a lot of talent here and I love the atmosphere." Kinnaird is sharing the long journey to Dingwall with his former Dundee United team-mate Alex Taylor who grabbed one of the goals and the man-of-the-match award. Davie Ross was also on target while Neil Tarrant and ex-Dundee midfielder John McGlashan grabbed doubles. But County boss Cooper is refusing to count his chickens in the promotion race despite opening a massive 12-point gap on their nearest rivals. He said: "I've been kicked in the teeth twice in two years as manager of Ross County and I don't talk about promotion until it is ours. "There are quite a few games to play and we won't always win as easily as this. "Still, I am full of praise for every one of our players." |
