| Comments | Match Report Report from the Press & Journal. Queen's Park 3 Ross County 1 After Extra Time Ross County player-manager Neale Cooper, defender Willie Furphy and striker Brian Grant could be out of this weekend's Challenge Cup first-round tie against Ayr United in Dingwall. The County boss limped out of Saturday's 3-1 extra-time Coca-Cola cup defeat against Queen's Park at Hampden with a groin injury, Furphy has a heel problem and hitman Grant is nursing bruised ribs. Cooper is keeping his fingers crossed that intensive treatment this week will help him recover and he rates Grant's chances of facing Ayr as no better than 50-50- after the striker complained of breathing problems on Hampden's wide-open spaces. But County's potential injury problems were playing second fiddle yesterday to manager Cooper's bitter disappointment at seeing a big-money home tie against Coca-Cola Cup holders Aberdeen yanked out of reach. An 83rd-minute Ian Maxwell equaliser and extra-time counters from Marc Falconer and Kevin McGoldrick saw the Spiders reel in a home tie against the Dons on Wednesday week. Yet, 10 minutes into the second half striker Derek Adams, making his county debut after signing from Burnley 10 days earlier, appeared to have put his new teammates in the driving seat when he fired them in front. "After we scored we sat back and invited them to tale the initiative away from us for a reason I couldn't put my finger on at the time and still haven't. That proved to be our downfall," said the County boss. |
