Brechin and Ross County fought out a goalless draw in this Division 3 promotion battle, leaving the rival managers in agreement that neither side deserved to win.
"We started well and had a couple of changes in the first half, including a Billy McNeill header that hit the bar," said City boss John Young.
"But if you don't take your chances you don't win."
Young as pleased with the showing of Stuart Sorbie who made his debut after signing from Livingston. Ralph Brand played for the last 20 minutes, his first home appearance after four and a half months out glandular fever.
County boss Bobby Wilson described it as "a game played between the penalty boxes."
He added: "You could have taken the keepers off and no one would have noticed.
"It was always going to be tight, but Gordon Connelly was outstanding for us in middle of the park.
"There are going to be games like this right to the end between the top five with teams giving nothing away."
Too many draws are hampering the County challenge as Saturday's was their 12th of the season.
"We lacked punch in the last third of the park and never really threatened."
Wilson revealed that his interest in former Don Steve Morrison is over . "Steve has been told that he is in Alloa's plans and it looks as if we will not be sighing him."
