| Comments | Match Report Report from the Press & Journal. Ross County 1 Cove Rangers 4 Cove boss Dave Watson is looking for his side to make a flat-out bid to get back into the Press and Journal Highland League championship reckoning over the next month. Three quick-fire goals from Doug BAXTER, Graeme PARK from the spot and Ray STEPHEN gave the Allan Parkers an unassailable three-goal lead over County in an eight-minute spell midway through the first half. Gordon CONNELLY hit back for the home side before the break but a second counter from PARK wrapped up the points and left the Cove boss in buoyant mood. He said: "I was always confident we could do well against County. Even when they are playing well, they'll always give their opposition a chance or two. We knew we had to put those chances away. "Thankfully, we produced one of our best performances of the season and missed very little that came our way in the first half. The fourth goal in the second half killed them off. "If we go all out to win every one of the 14 league games we have left, we could get ourselves back in among the title challengers and that makes the games coming up over the next month vitally important." County boss Bobby Wilson, whose mind is now on the Tennents Scottish Cup and his side's trip to Alloa this weekend, wrote the result off as a setback rather than a disaster for his own side's championship challenge. He said: "We paid the price for eight minutes of madness and a soft penalty which left us 3-0 down with a big job on our hands. "We picked things up after the interval but we had too much to do and Cove ended up deserved winners, although we could argue the margin wasn't as wide as the score line suggested. "In cup terms, Saturday's result made sure our minds will be on the job facing at us at Recreation Park. A kick in the pants never does too much harm before a big cup tie. |
