Inverness Caledonian Thistle 5 Ross County 2 Bobby Wilson saw his side flop to bitter rivals Caley Thistle and sighed: I'm glad that wasn't a league game. Ross County got a thumping in the Inverness Cup final/ But Wilson vowed he would not be panicked into matching Caley's big spending in the transfer market. New boys Mike Teasdale and Brian Thomson snatched winners medals in their first outings for their new club. Teasdale, sighed from Dundee on Friday, scored in five-star performance by the Caley goal machine. But it was Iain Stewart with a hat-trick and Dave Ross, architect of four goals, who grabbed the glory. Teasdale and Thomson were Caley boss Steve Paterson's seventh and eighth signings this season. But Wilson isn't worried. He said: "Our fans got a bit restless early in the season with the arrival of players like Iain Stewart and Dave Ross. "But why should we react when we're above them in the league? "We've spent money bringing Stuart Golabeck here from Clach, and I've got belief in the players I already have. "Promotion is the real prize and I really would be feeling disappointed if that had been three points down the drain." County twice took the lead through Jamie MacPherson in eight minutes and Colin Milne in 34 minutes. But they were outclassed as spectacular Stewart struck in 17, 43 and 63 minutes. It was the pace and trickery of big Dave Ross--nicknamed Daisy--which catapulted Caley to their triumph. He set up the third for ex-Celt Charlie Christie and carved an easy debut goal for Teasdale from six yards. Teasdale joked: "I'm told it isn't always like this, but one trophy after one game is not bad going at all!" |
