Two-goal John Sutton handed out a scoring lesson to County and knocked them off the top of the table.
Sutton admitted he would love to lead the Buddies to the Premier League for the chance to come up against his brother, Chris, at Celtic.
He said: "It is still too early in the season to talk about the title, but it is the ambition of everyone here to get to the Premier League and I might even get a crack at my brother, if he is still at Parkhead."
It could all have been so different for County if an Alex Burke penalty had gone in instead of cracking against a post and rebounding for Steve McGarry to knock wide.
County manager John Robertson said: "If the penalty had gone in things might have been different. The better team won, but we are still up there around the top three despite the fact a lot of people tipped us for relegation.
It is disappointing to lose a goal then get a penalty which we missed.
"The heads went down for some reason and that is the first time in my time in charge."
County knew they could be in for a tough afternoon as early as the fourth minute as the buddies powered forward and Stewart Kean produced a header which was well saved by goalkeeper Stuart Garden.
But garden had no chance when Sutton met a Charlie Adam cross to send a looping header behind him and into the net to open the scoring.
Just seven minutes later County had their first chance to equalise, but threw it away.
John Potter wrestled Alex Burke to the Ground but, after the forward had got back to his feet, his spot-kick came off the post and Steve McGarry put the rebound wide.
Sutton was again on the mark when he took a Mark McCulloch pass back in his stride before rounding the goalkeeper and scoring to send John Robertson's men tumbling from the summit of the First Division.
Buddies manager Gus MacPherson said: "We have not played better this season than we did in that first half.
"I still worried as we were only one goal ahead and the second one was vital."
