Courageous Alex Bone snatched the only goal of the game to send his side into the second round draw of the CIS League Cup at Hampden tomorrow.
But Ross County had to survive a last minute scare when big striker Colin Nish went down in the penalty area, but Clyde's desperate appeals for a spot kick were waved aside by referee John Underhill.
Clyde were first to threaten after 15 minutes when Jack Ross ghosted in from the right in a bid to get on to the end of a through ball, but the alert keeper Tony Bullock was quickly off his line to cut out the danger.
And despite Ross County looking the more dangerous side in the opening stages, Clyde threatened again six minutes later with a low, long-range Steve McConologue shot which was a foot wide.
However, there was a feeling that the more positive running from Ross County could break the deadlock and they got their reward when they took the lead in 26 minutes.
And it was thanks to courage of Bone for the striker never held back as he pounced on a short headed pass back from Bryan Smith, who failed decisively to cut out a long ball from Martin Canning.
Even though Bone knew that keeper Brynn Halliwell was rushing out and was certain to clash with him, the striker kept his eye on the ball and his lob just beat a despairing effort by Simon Mensing to clear and bounced into the net.
A long-range Andy Millen effort was easily cleared just before the interval as Clyde tried to hit back.
Clyde were looking for an equaliser early in the second period and, after 58 minutes, substitute David Hagan came close with a searing drive which was inches over the bar.
And then the home side forced two corners in quick succession.
As tempers became heated Ross County manager Neale Cooper was ushered back to his dug-out by referee Underhill after an exchange with Andy Millen.
And then keeper Bullock twice came to the rescue as he first turned over a fierce Simon Mensing drive and then blocked a Ross effort from the resultant corner kick.
Mark McCulloch raised the pressure when he combined well with Conor Gethins, who had just came on after 77 minutes, to force his way forward and his low shot clipped a defender on the way past.
Clyde manager Allan Kernoghan then threw on Steve Convery for defender Bryan Smith as the home side looked for the equaliser.
