Saint Mirren 1 Ross County 0
A Combination of careless finishing and an inspired 90 minutes from St Mirren goalkeeper Ludovic Roy saw Ross County go down in this First Division tussle at Love Street last night.
Roy's two breath-taking saves in injury time simply broke County hearts.
Saints opened aggressively with Quitongo, Murray and Gillies running things in midfield.
The vital strike was an early indication that it was not to be the Dingwall side's night.
Gillies, in good position, mishit his shot and then jumped for joy when he saw it deflected into the Ross net by County's Ian Maxwell.
Midway through the half, County woke up and tested keeper Roy in the shape of excellent shots from Steve Ferguson and John McQuade. Alex Bone and Ferguson tested the home keeper with net-bound shots but the Buddies went close to doubling their lead when Bowman's in swinging corner was headed goal wards by Kerr but keeper Tony Bullock brilliantly blocked the effort.
County manager Cooper had obviously rallied his troops at half-time and they surged forward looking for an equaliser.
Bone and Robertson could only shake their heads in disbelief when net-bound shots were stopped by Roy and defender Walker.
The final torrid 15 minutes produced more Dingwall attacks but, sadly, no goals for the visitors. County's Maxwell and Robertson were booked.
The defeat leaves County struggling in the league basement area but, judging by the enthusiasm and commitment shown against Saints, they should be climbing the table soon.
