Falkirk 1 Ross County 4
Ross County striker Steven Hislop used to ply his trade just 300 yards from Brockville. If his double against Falkirk on Saturday is any guide, the air in the area must do him the world of good.
The former East Stirling frontman followed a magnificent 11th minute Hugh Robertson opener with a brace in the last four minutes of the first half to kill off any hopes the Bairns may have harboured of taking something from the game.
Hislop has adapted well to life in the First Division since swapping Firs Park for Dingwall but he is hoping Saturday's display will get him back on the goal trail.
He said: "I have gone through a lean spell recently and I was just delighted to get these goals and try and help the team get out of relegation trouble."
The 23-year-old was a pension adviser before going full time with County and he is enjoying every moment of his new career.
He said: "I left home for the first time to move to a flat in in Inverness and I am really enjoying it.
"I would like to go much further in football, but I still have a lot to learn. I will keep working to improve my game and the two goals against Falkirk are good for my own and the team's confidence."
Robertson's opener was straight from the top drawer. The former Dundee ace left Falkirk pair Mark Kerr and Andy Lawrie for dead on the left edge of the 18-yard box before firing across Myles Hogarth and in at the far post.
With 41 minutes on the clock home defender Kevin Christie gave the ball away to Hislop on the edge of the box and the striker placed the ball inside the keeper's left hand post from 12-yards.
On half time Hislop collected a throw in from the right with his back to goal and turned to rifle home an angled right foot shot.
Lee Wilkie pulled a goal back for the Bairns after 84 minutes but it only served to jolt County back to life and Karim Boukraa scored the visiting side's fourth goal two minutes from time after a great run by Conor Gethins.
County manager Neale Cooper believes his squad is getting stronger as the injury list clears. He said: "I was delighted with everyone but I have to single out Kenny Gilbert.
"Kenny thought his career was finished due to his eye injury but he came back today to snap away at everything in midfield and was outstanding.
"It's amazing because he hasn't been able to even play a friendly because of the rough weather up in Dingwall. He came back with a remarkable performance given he has not played a game in 18 months."
