| Comments | Match Report Report from the Daily Record. Montrose 3 Ross County 6 County strike star Gary Wood begged his manager to take him off the transfer list after he bagged his Sixth goal in just three games. Wood netted four in the Links park clash--the now hopes gaffer Neale Cooper will give him another chance. Ross boss Cooper put the hitman up for sale earlier this season after becoming brassed off with poor form--and the move has worked wonders. Now cocky Wood is aiming to fill the shoes of goal machine Derek Adams who left to join Motherwell for £100,000 last month. He said: "I scored last week as well which makes it six for the season. But I don't mind who scored so long as we win and it's good to get back to winning ways. "When you're not in the side you just need to keep working and then take your chance when it comes. "I started the season playing at the back then moved up front last week and I've scored in both games so hopefully I can keep my place. I feel really confident just now where last season I was nervous. "I'm still on the transfer list but hopefully I can keep improving. We had a long talk after losing last week and I think that helped. We struggled a bit after Derek left but maybe we're over that now." Wood grabbed a quick-fire, 12-minute hat-trick after Darren Hutton had put Montrose in front. County then had David Mathieson sent off for a late tackle on Scott Taylor and Craig Farnan cashed in to pull one back. But Wood, Steve Ferguson and Roy McBain sealed victory before Benny Andrew grabbed a consolation. County boss Neale Cooper singled out Wood for special praise. He said: "At times Gary is a bit rash and gets over-excited but he was brilliant today--different class." Montrose caretaker boss Brian McLaughlin groaned: "I thought we were a bit unlucky and never deserved to lose six goals." |
