Ross County 0 Forfar Athletic 3
Forfar Athletic boss Tommy Campbell's wry smile at his side's Tennents Scottish Cup revenge on Ross County was tinged with a hint of disappointment at Victoria Park on Saturday.
The Sky Blues' classy victory left the Forfar manager well satisfied that the two-year-old ghost of a 4-0 cup hiding by County had been well and truly exorcised.
But he was markedly less impressed with the prospect of an away fourth-round trip to either Dumbarton or Airdrie later this month.
"We would rather have drawn Rangers, or another big name, but we'll worry about our next few league games before we even think about our next cup opponents," he said.
Forfar's two-goal hero was striker Mark Bows, who caused the Ross rear guard all sorts of problems, turning a Don McVicar cross home in the fourth minute to put the Angus club in the driving seat.
Twelve minutes into the second half, John Allison did the spade work for former St Johnstone winger Alan Morgan to make it 2-0 and man-of-the-match Bowes killed County off on the hour.
"I am highly delighted with that showing, because I made five changes from the side that lost to Stenhousemuir and they all paid off," said the happy Campbell.
Forfar supported County's successful bid for Scottish League status and manager Campbell, who sent his side out in front of 2,000 fans at Dingwall, was clearly impressed by crowd-pulling strength of both County and Caledonian Thistle.
He said: "Crowds like that prove the Scottish League was right to appoint two Highland clubs. Everyone was wary of the decision at first, but it has proved to be the correct one."
But that was little comfort to County, who could only point to winger Billy Ferries occasional sorties, a strong penalty claim turned down when Doug Craig appeared to handle and a Colin Milne shot for any slim consolation.
Dejected Ross boss Bobby Wilson said: "Obviously we are disappointed after playing so well in midweek against Caley Thistle.
"I was hopeful, but Forfar worked a lot harder than we did and they shut us down successfully. They made sure we created nothing more than one real scoring chance.
"Now we've got to pick ourselves up, concentrate on our promotion chances and prepare for our midweek tussle with leaders Livingston here on Wednesday."
