| Comments | Match Report Report by Andrew Henderson for the Ross-shire Journal Ross County 2 Elgin City 0 The home side dominated much of the first half, but they couldn’t get that breakthrough. Declan McManus had three chances to get on the scoresheet. Two of them were headers – one early on where he was in acres of space inside the box and really should have done better, and another on the half hour where he couldn’t quite direct it inside the post. Five minutes before half time, the striker had the best chance of the half. Gardyne cut inside from the left and picked McManus out with an in-swinging delivery, but his header was too close to Elgin goalkeeper Kyle Gourlay who pulled off a point-blank save. But the ball only rebounded towards the edge of the box, where Jamie Lindsay was charging in and sweetly struck a low shot which cannoned back off the post. McManus finally broke the deadlock on the hour mark, when Marcus Fraser went past a defender in the opposition box and put the ball on a plate for him inside the six-yard-box – really it would have been easier to miss. And Fraser was involved in County’s second goal late in the game too. He made a run forward with the ball and had a shot that was blocked into the air. But Josh Mullin, who had come off the bench, was close by and he hit the ball on the volley past Gourlay and into the bottom corner to make it 2-0. |
