Huntly 0 Ross County 1
A Roy McBain goal in County's first real attack produced the winner against a depleted Huntly in last Saturday's friendly at Christie Park.
Steve Ferguson produced the pass that sent Paul Kinnaird away on the right and McBain was lurking at the far post to head home the resultant cross on 28 minutes for the only goal of the match.
But that was one of the few memorable moments in a match that was played in an incessant downpour.
But the day was brightened by the performance of Brian Irvine who stood head and shoulders above rest in an otherwise easily forgettable afternoon.
It was not until County reverted to a back three late in the game, and the home side visibly tired that they completed dominated proceedings.
Substitute Garry Wood should have added a second with only Huntly keeper Neish to beat, but that would have been an injustice to Huntly side that look to be well prepared in their bid to regain the Highland League crown.
But at the final whistle, County boss Neale Cooper would have been satisfied with this workout and the players themselves would have benefited from the experience of playing together as a unit for the first time.
