| Comments | Match Report Report from the Press & Journal. Brechin City 1 Ross County 0 A goal by Graham Gibson in injury time gave Brechin all three points and delighted manager Dick Campbell--even if his men are heading for the Second Division. "Both teams went about their job in the right way as I always felt that one goal would win it," said Campbell. "Many times this season we've lost and people have said Brechin deserved more, but nobody can grudge us the three points. "We got the break in the last minute, which is a great time to score. That is two goals in two games for Graham Gibson and he is back on fire. "I've told my boys I want to finish the season on a high and that is what we are going to do. "The most important thing was we didn't lose a goal. We've lost 10 games this season to goals in the last minutes. Some might say that is a part-time mentality, but today we dug in and got the points and nobody can deny we deserved them." The winner came when a Scott McCulloch free kick was parried by County goalkeeper Graham Smith and Gibson knocked home the rebound. Earlier, Brechin hit the crossbar three times--through a Marc Millar volley, a McCulloch header and a Chris Templeman shot. County were also denied by the woodwork. Just on half-time, a Martin Canning header hit the bar and went over and in the second half a shot from substitute Conor Gethins was tipped on to the post and behind by Kevin Budinauckas. County manager Alex Smith was fuming at the award of the free kick which led to the goal. He said: "To lose the way we did was disappointing. The referee gave a delayed-action free kick in a dangerous area and they got the rebound and score. "That is what so often happens when it is 0-0 and we will learn from it as we are a young team. "We have had a reasonable season and we've played well in the last three games without getting our rewards. "It was a hard game and the teams hit the woodwork five teams between them. "I wouldn't have been happy with 0-0 as I felt we had the opportunities to win the game, but we didn't work hard enough in the final third." |
