Ross County 3 Deveronvale 0

Don Cowie returned to the team on Saturday — he was absent on Tuesday — and one felt his presence lifted his colleagues’ performances.
Chris Somerville was in superlative form, producing some exciting, mazy runs as he took Deveronvale on from the depth of his own defence, and drove through skilfully to the other end of the field, despatching good passes to colleagues, or simply blasting the ball at ‘goal. He was dangerous, and one of his forays paid off in the 30th minute, when George Stewart swept his pass into goal.
George, who has become a regular scorer, came close with another shot, which the keeper did well to palm on to the crossbar.
The Vale keeper was to prove the saviour of his side on innumerable occasions as he took a strong shot from O’Brien from a Connolly pass; and then saved a diving header from Lemmon. A rising shot from Robertson crashed off the bar.
County were attacking, but on the break Deveronvale were showing that they still presented a danger and that a one-goal deficit was not unsurmountable, as they pressed home their counter-attacks. However, County began to string together some exciting attacks, as they opened up play on the Vale left. A cross from Barry Wilson deserved a better fate, when an unmarked Macdonald could only head it over the bar. “Nero” had just come on as a substitute, and this was his first touch of the ball.
However, in the 84th minute, County scored.
Connolly lobbed a ball over the defensive wall on the edge of the 18 yard box, and Robbie Williamson ran on to it and turned it past the keeper.
Four minutes later, Wilson scored the third. Connolly had darted into the 18-yard box, and had been taken down, the ball towards the goal line with Macdonald in close pursuit. He caught it, and turned it back into the path of Barry Wilson, who, scored from almost under the bar. In this case, one felt that here was a correct decision by the referee, who played the “advantage” rule, when Connolly was brought down.
