Huntly 1 Ross County 2

On Saturday, Ross County were faced with an unenviable task at Huntly in the Highland League as they sought to overcome Wednesday’s set-back and regain their confidence.
Huntly were in a similar situation, for they too had been “ousted” from the League Cup competition that week after a good start to the season, and were out to redeem themselves.
In past years, County have taken few points from the Strathbogie side. However, on this occasion they took all three, as the result of a much improved performance all-round, and this despite the fact David Macrae had given away a needless penalty for the first goal of the match in the 31st minute. He had punched away a ball assuming danger threatened. Watson scored from the spot.
County equalised in the 49th minute, when John Macdonald took advantage of slackness in the home defence to run unchallenged on the keeper and score from 25 yards.
The winner came in the 63rd minute, when a powerful shot from “Nero” Macdonald slipped through the keeper’s hands into the back of the net.
