| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 1 Elgin City 2 AGAIN Ross County had as much of the play as their opponents, but could not turn their chances into goals. They are certainly delighting their supporters with their all-out determination this season, and are deserving of some reward. For most of the game, County were on the attack, but their sharpness deserted them in front of goal. On several occasions, Elgin caught them on the break. Elgin’s first goal in the ninth minute was against the run of play. Bennett hooked a ball into the six-yard area, where Jappy, a former County player, trapped it and pushed it back into the path of McCutcheon, and he scored easily. In the 24th minute, Penman's corner kick was missed by keeper MacLaughlin, and Christie had the simplest of chances, pushing the ball home. In the 44th minute, Elgin took the lead again, when an unmarked MacArthur took a cross from Fraser and headed it home from six yards. The second half was mainly County, but they had only one clear-cut chance, and this fell to Jackson in the first five minutes, but he hit the ball against MacLaughlin’s body when in the clear. |
