Ross County 0 Elgin City 2

Ross County’s showing in the Highland League to-date, two points for three matches played, though not impressive compared with their valorous cup-tie encounters, shows no cause for concern, as they have every opportunity to strengthen their position later on.
At Dingwall last Saturday, in their League fixture with Elgin City, a day of fog followed overnight rain, which resulted in a greasy pitch, on which the visitors seemed to be quite at home. The conditions did not affect Elgin’s goalscoring Armstrong, who notched his side’s two points to County’s nil. He has scored for Elgin in every match this season, and heads the list of leading Highland League marksmen to date, with a total of 14.
Ross County opened strongly and an early try came from Rooney, when he tested Bennett with a fast ball. This was followed by a header from Davidson and another Rooney drive. Elgin soon settled down and the forward line came more into the picture. Fearn, taking a corner kick, sent in a ball which Shearer smartly saved. Mid-field play persisted for some minutes until Armstrong nipped an Ogilvie cross, and tested Shearer, who again brought off a clever save, a feat he repeated within minutes from another Armstrong drive. Armstrong was obviously the most dangerous man afield. Half-time arrived with neither side scoring, a tribute to Shearer’s custody.
The tempo quickened on resumption, and, as expected, Armstrong snatched every opportunity. Within six minutes he scored with a fifteen-yard drive. A chance for equalisation came, but Davidson shot the ball just over. Elgin’s second goal came from their star scorer again, to give them a 2-0 lead. The rest of the play lagged on until the final whistle went, with little to enthuse over from either side.
