| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 2 Caledonian FC 5 Several changes were made in the County line-up. Farmer had a triumphal return to centre half. Mitchell was a man he could not afford to take chances with, but his tackling was keen, and his clearances, though on occasions first-time, were well placed. "Dodo" Ross brought in at right back, had a good game, but was inclined to put through a short pass to the centre too often, when a high lob out to the wing would have paid greater dividends. Willie Urquhart turned out at right half, but in the latter stages of the game moved to outside left. Paterson, at centre, had a subdued game, but he took every chance that came his way. Browning, at outside left, centred a lovely ball, and kept the County forwards alive and dangerous. Frankie Macbeath was not allowed much rope by Nimmo, who when danger threatened the goalmouth always seemed to be on the spot to kick or head clear off the line. Both sides were on their mettle, and by half-time five goals were scored. Caley, wing halves and inside forwards cut through the County defence and paved the way for a goal by Mitchell, which Newton just failed to punch out; a goal from an oblique angle by Mackenzie following a slip by Nimmo; and a goal from a hard drive by Bolt, which was deflected into the net by a County defender. County's goals came through Maybury, who scored from a corner by T. Urquhart; and Browning, who put the finishing touches to a combined movement by T. Urquhart and Paterson. |
