| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 7 Lossiemouth 1 Ross County's goal average was well increased on Saturday, when they were at home to Lossiemouth, whom they defeated 7-1 at Victoria Park. One of the fastest games witnessed this season, the result is not by any means a reflection on the "Lossie Loons," as they were still full of fight at the end of the game, but somehow or other they just couldn't perfect their finishing off. They displayed some clever combination football, which should have paid a better dividend. Ross County appear to have a winning combination if Saturday's play is anything to go by. Browning took up his position again after a try-out the previous week with Albion Rovers, and Nimmo made his debut at left back in place of Findlay, who has returned to Helmsdale. Clark was always an optimist, and added another four goals to his season's total. Scoring a hat-trick is becoming a habit with this agile little tactician. Bremner also has been prominent in his two games, and had three of the seven goals registered. The game opened briskly, and within a quarter of an hour things had settled down. Ross were on top. Lowden was bombarded and both himself and Gordon put up a heroic defence. They had to yield, however, when a screamer from Bremner beat the harassed and hurt custodian. This followed a hectic moment or two when Lowden had to save in rapid succession from Clark and Urquhart, with the ball whizzing backwards and forwards from the goal-mouth, until Bremner finally made sure. Earlier, Clark shook the side netting with a strong drive after Urquhart had let him away. Lossie were well in the forefront at this period, but always a sound County defence defeated their forward moves. Bremner and Urquhart tested Lowden again, Urquhart's header crossing the post. Lossie kept pressing for a goal and they deserved one. Sneddon got up with the ball and Newton had to twice kick clear. The tempo was mounting when Clark got through, but Lowden again saved magnificently, and the interval whistle went. On resumption Clark increased the County lead, and within minutes added a third. His hat-trick put the homesters four up. Bremner, for good measure, took things further, scoring another two goals and his own hat-trick. Clark added number seven. D. Stewart netted the solitary Lossie point. |
