| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 5 Huntly 1 Ending the first half with one goal against them, Ross County staged a great comeback in the second period of their game against Huntly at Dingwall last Saturday, when they turned the tables on the Aberdeenshire men to the tune of five goals to one. Hugh Urquhart, Aultbea, ex-Dingwall Academy player, who was introduced to the team as centre-forward, later changing to inside-right, had no small part in the victory. County kicked off and were early in the attack. Ferguson let Bremner through, but the winger's cross was weak. Huntly quickly responded and Newton saved a dangerous lob from Macdonald. Ogilvie was next in the picture with a grand first-time try, which went screaming over the bar. But the home defence was palpably weak. When Bremner let H. Urquhart through, McCombie made a clever clearance. A minute later Crawford cleared another Urquhart ball. Play went up to the other end and a nice corner kick by Gould went narrowly past. Ross County gradually settled down and were unfortunate not to lead. However, so far, it was a poor game. Huntly were really dangerous in attack and had the home defence constantly worried. Rough was playing a sound game. County goal had two let-offs in quick succession, Newton saving the last Macdonald try with his foot. Then H. Urquhart had a fine try saved to the corner by Crawford. The Huntly goal at this period bore a charmed life, with the custodian saving brilliantly. At the other end, Browning cleared when Newton was beaten. A minute before the whistle went, Huntly took the lead through Mills, who scored a perfect goal. A re-shuffle of the home team on resumption resulted in greatly improved play. Good work by Tommy Urquhart saw Rough kick off the goal-line for a corner. Urquhart centred to Bremner, who made no mistake. Following this play became a lively affair with quick raids to each end. Number two for County came from Tommy Urquhart, who received a nice slip from H. Urquhart. Minutes after, H. Urquhart put his side further ahead from a Bremner cross, and shortly after Bremner, from an Ogilvie cross, scored number four. Crawford was kept busy for the remainder of the game and in the closing minutes, Urquhart took the score to five. The Ross men, following the rearrangement, when Browning went to centre-forward, Simpson to right-half and H. Urquhart to inside-right, really played as a combination and could do nothing wrong. Huntly forward attacks were weak at goalmouth. |
