| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Inverness Thistle 1 Ross County 4 With three lost league points to avenge, Ross County set about their opponents in an uncertain manner, at Kingsmills Park, in this Cup tie. Gray won the toss for Thistle and elected to play with the sun and wind advantage. It was not long before they made tracks for the visitors' goal, to find themselves faced by a defence which was giving nothing away. The County forward line was sweeter moving once they got going, with Ogilvie a constant worker to the home goal. After 20 minutes he meandered out to the right before crossing a high lob which eluded Christie, and Bremner's head completed the movement. County maintained their attacks and 10 minutes from the interval Simpson crashed a pile-driver into the Thistle goal-mouth. The ball rebounded from a defender and Ferguson fastened on to drive into the net via the upright. Fifteen minutes after the interval, Bremner and Ogilvie took part in a smart passing movement on the wing for the former to cross a low ball and the centre-forward pivoted round to send a left foot counter past Christie's left hand. Three goals down, Thistle began to force the pace, but Farmer, who was holding Owens in a vice-like grip, and his co-defenders, booted the ball down field at every opportunity. With 35 minutes of the second half gone, Thistle were awarded a penalty for a handling offence and Carr made no mistake from the spot. This reduction of the deficit was not enjoyed for long, however, as Ogilvie scored in a goal-mouth melee five minutes later, and the game ended with the 'loon team swarming round the home goal. |
