| Match Report | Report From The Ross-shire Journal. Lossiemouth 2 Ross County 1 County forwards can only blame themselves for failing to bring this trophy to Dingwall, after their game with Lossiemouth, at Nairn. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, they dictated play and had enough chances to have made the game secure by half-time. Ramsay, in the Lossie goal, abetted by the woodwork, and on more than one occasion a full back, plus the ineptness of the County in front of goal, kept the score sheet clean; then saw Alexander give his team the lead two minutes from the interval, when he found himself unmarked in front of Newton with the ball at his feet, as the result of two defenders going for it at the same time and neither clearing it. With the wind at their backs County lobbed the ball into the Lossie goalmouth time after time, to find Kellas a stone wall in defence, when their first half open play might have brought goals. Nevertheless, it occasioned surprise when Farmer, who had played a brilliant game, essayed a pass back to Newton from the region of the centre line, stubbed his toe in the turf, and rolled the ball to George, who ran on to put his side two up, with a fast ground shot into the net. County, now desperate in their attacks, continued to monopolise the play, but it was ten minutes from the end before they got their just reward, when Bremner headed in. Captain Sutherland rallied his men, urged them on, but the Lossiemouth defence, all eleven of them, packed the goal and held out to take the cup back with them for the second time in three years. |
