Forres Mechanics 3 Ross County 1

This was a game of two halves. Ross County had much the better of the first, although they could only score once to equalise; Forres were on top in the second half, and scoring twice, won by 3 goals to 1.
The home lot were disappointing at the outset. Shortly after the start Cameron might have opened Ross County’s account, but Wisneswski deflected the ball over the bar for a fruitless corner. Then, against the run of play, Forres scored a good goal. The County defence appeared to get tied up for a moment. Dunn stepped in between the backs and gave Newton no chance. The visitors replied strongly and the Polish goalkeeper was kept very busy. On two occasions he made full-length saves from Ferguson. The latter, however, eventually equalised, slipping a wing cross by Ogilvie past Wisneiwski.
Ross County opened strongly after the change over, but only for a time. Gradually Forres assumed the ascendency, and when Forres Cameron lobbed a high ball into the goalmouth, Ruse slashed it into the net. A few minutes later the Mechanics were two up, Taylor heading in a pass from Bruce. This appeared to knock the heart out of the County team. They did make spasmodic raids, but they were easily held. Forres deserved their win because of their tenacity in the second half. Ross County threw away their opportunities in the first half. The weakness lay in the inside forwards, who failed to support Cafferom. Little complaint could be found with the defence or the halves, and Newton was very sound, especially in the latter part of the game.
