Ross County 1 Forres Mechanics 2

Ross County had two-thirds of the play in this game and yet they lost by two-thirds in goals. Forres Mechanics will not again this season gain two League points as easily. They were the weaker side by far, except in goal and at centre-half. The County defence was very sound, with Spence slightly the better of the backs. G. Ross was a sterling pivot. This was his best game of the season for the County. Both wing halves have been better; the forwards were splendid up to a point, but there was too much individualism and not enough combined work. Above all they could not shoot. Agreed Wisniewski, the Pole, was in brilliant form, yet he could and ought to have been beaten a dozen times. Both Cameron and Urquhart missed "sitters." The strength of Forres lay in the half-line, Dean being especially good. Veteran Dickie did his best to keep the eager front line reserves going. They were all triers but lacked experience.
Playing with the sun at their backs, a favour granted to them by their opponents, Ross County had the better of the early exchanges and for a period kept Forres on the defensive. Four corners followed in quick succession—all abortive. Cameron had one good try, which Maclean was lucky to stop with his stomach—much to his discomfort. Then Cameron got the surprise of his life. He got a peach of a pass from Ogilvie. A yard from the goal, he trapped the ball and shot—over the cross-bar. How? It's inexplicable. The spectators gasped then laughed. Forres were very feeble at this point and yet they got the opening goal. It was a strong shot by Dickie from halfway up the field. Cameron connected, ran in and shot. The ball struck the foot of an upright and glanced into the net. County continued to apply the pressure, but Wisniewski defied all efforts. At this stage Forres were lucky to be on the lead.
Ross County resumed at a great pace, but Dean was a thorn in their flesh. The Mechanics came into the picture more often this half and Ruse gave Newton a hard one to hold. Later Newton saved his charge by rushing out and throwing himself at Cameron's feet. It was daring, but it came off. County retaliated fiercely and for several moments the ball remained in the Forres goalmouth until Urquhart rushed in and drove it into the net, with the goalkeeper helpless. The goal was deserved on play. County continued superior and every forward tried to find the target, but all efforts were vain. On the other hand, Forres in one of their spasmodic raids, took the lead. They had forced a corner. Dickie lobbed the ball into the goalmouth, and Cameron did the rest. Right to the end County forced the pace, but try what they would, that equaliser would not come.
