Ross County 5 Buckie Thistle 2

For a second time within fourteen days, Ross County have emphasised their superiority over Buckie Thistle. At Dingwall the County won 5-1; at Buckie the County won 5-2, an aggregate of 10-3. And Buckie are potential challengers for the championship. Ross County had not put out their strongest team, both Miller and Cameron crying off at the last moment. Miller has knee trouble and it is doubtful if he will be thoroughly fit this season again. Cameron could have played, but was well advised not to on the hard nature of the ground. The substitutes did not let the team down. Ogilvie and Munro are whole-hearted, clever ball manipulators, realise the value of positional play and both can shoot—perhaps not always deadly. The game started at a great pace, but the slippery nature of the ground soon slowed up the players, who appeared chary of what might happen. The visitors adapted themselves to the conditions better than the home lot and reaped the just reward. In ten minutes they opened their account. It was the result of a free kick taken by Urquhart. The ball travelled to Clark, who crashed it into the corner of the net. Within sixty seconds Buckie were on level terms, Allan converting a penalty, the result of an unfortunate error. But County were undismayed, and again they resumed the lead. A well-placed corner was headed in by G. Sutherland, with Findlay nowhere. Ross County continued on top, yet after half-an-hour Buckie equalised through Allan, who easily netted a Duncan cross. Just before half-time, Findlay made his only mistake of the game, misjudging a high cross from Urquhart. The ball travelled all the way from him into the net.
Within four minutes after the turn-round, the visitors consolidated their position. Urquhart sent over from the left and Munro correcting, gave Findlay little or no prospect of stopping the ball's progress into the net. Territorially Ross County were much the better team, yet when the Buckie forwards got going, they were very dangerous in front of goal and kept all the County's defenders on the alert. Buckie made a gallant attempt to pull the game out of the fire, but it was of no avail. Their cup was full when, with nine minutes to go, Ross County made their total five, the referee judging that the ball had crossed the line in a melee in the goalmouth. Clark got credit for the goal. Result:—Buckie Thistle, 2; Ross County, 5
