| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 5 Huntly 0 Ross County were complete masters of Huntly from start to finish and their clear five goal victory was fully warranted. The forwards were much more impressive than the Huntly quintette, and they were better served at half-back where Ross played one of his best games for the County. James Macdonald showed much promise. The defence was not tested. Ferguson, at right back, was sound and his passes up the centre and to his wing were perfectly placed. Nevertheless, Ferguson is an inside-right. A. Jack substituted well for Chisholm, while Newton, while getting little to do, did it well. Chree was the strong man in the Huntly side and Crawford saved his side from a heavier defeat. The game opened at a good pace and County went immediately into attack. David Jack sent across a ball, but there was no one there to get it and the chance went abegging. Next Jack headed over, but in the eighth minute he made no mistake when he connected with a corner kick taken by Urquhart, and drove the ball past Crawford. County had several chances to score after this, and a little steadiness in front of goal might have secured the desired result. The visitors were not altogether out of the picture. The halves and forwards had some fine running bouts, particularly on the right wing, but whenever the ball got to the penalty area, all attempts at scoring fizzled out. Cameron was in great fettle and he gave Crawford no peace. A Cameron rocket drive was brilliantly put aside, then Cameron flashed the ball past Crawford, only to find that he got offside. He did, however, get a reward for his persistency. Crawford blocked a Cameron shot, but the rebound came back to the centre, who promptly netted. Before the interval, Ferguson made the total three from the penalty spot. The visitors appeared livelier after the resumption and their clever outfield play deserved a better reward. As it was, all goal-scoring efforts appeared at the other end. D. Jack had a brilliant shot, which was equally brilliantly saved by Crawford. Urquhart got number four for his side and Cameron went "one." This was a particularly clever goal. The ball was sent in by Urquhart, Crawford came out to it with Cameron in attendance. As the ball was passing over his head, Cameron jumped and his head literally lifted the ball from Crawford's finger-tips. It was perfectly timed. There was no further scoring and Huntly retired well beaten. |
