Deveronvale 5 Ross County 2

Ross County were sorely handicapped without Cameron on Saturday. His injury to his knee, sustained at the Partick Thistle game, is yielding to treatment, but he is far from fit. On the other hand, Deveronvale were delighted with their win—and that convincing—because it is their first collection of points in three months. John Burnett, who has been off with an ankle injury for weeks, signalised his return by giving a good display at left-half. Sinclair, Adam and Milne were all in good scoring form and they gave Newton and his backs a very trying time in the first half. For the visitors, Ogilvie and Urquhart were best. The centre found Glover a stiff hurdle to overcome, but Urquhart led Masson a merry dance.
The home team was the first to attack, and Burnett drove past the wrong side of the post when well placed. It was left to Sinclair to open the scoring, Sutherland having failed to clear his lines. Sixty seconds later, Fletcher, who was very versatile, made the total two. Ogilvie at the other end sent in a great shot, which brought out the abilities of Allan. Fletcher sent home a third, which, however, was nullified for an infringement. Urquhart was doing good work on the County left. Forcing a corner, he sent across a beautiful placed ball. The danger was miraculously cleared. With twenty minutes gone, Fletcher notched number three, while the County defenders stood appealing for off-side. Sinclair made the total four, before Ogilvie, with a neat header from an Urquhart corner, opened the County account. Just before the interval the homesters got a fifth.
Ross County were much the superior team in the second half, and Urquhart increased to two. The County also got a penalty, but it was thrown away. This somewhat knocked the heart out of the Ross-shire boys, and the home team took the running. Newton had a very busy time, but defied all shots, and the final count was Deveronvale, 5; Ross County, 2. Deveronvale deserved to win, but not by such a large margin as the score suggests.
