| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Nairn County 3 Ross County 0 This was an excellent game, although the result was disappointing from the local point of view. Nairn County deserved their victory, if only for the fact that they accepted their chances; Ross County did not, even to the extent of throwing away a penalty kick. Territorially there was little between the teams. If anything the visitors had more of the outfield play, but the homesters were much more dangerous in front of goal. Against the run of play, Nairn County were one up in the first half. It was the result of a strong shot by Batchen, the ball hitting the underside of the crossbar and glancing into the net. Newton had no chance to save. Shortly after the resumption, Nairn went two up as the result of a breakaway. Then came Ross County's opportunity. They were awarded a penalty kick, but Ferguson, to the surprise of everyone, sent the ball over the bar. This took the heart out of the visitors and they never rallied again. Near the end Fraser put his team three up. Ross County missed the steadying influence and inspiration of Patience. His duties as a fisherman were the cause of his absence. |
