Buckie Thistle 4 Ross County 1

Once again Ross County had the experience of having the advantage territorially, with clever combined play in the open, but all of little avail when it came to scoring goals. They simply do not possess that little bit extra necessary to convert their leading-up work to get the ball between the posts. Buckie Thistle certainly deserved their win, but not by such a wide margin. Despite a soft, greasy surface and the ball playing queer tricks, the standard of football all over was high.
Thistle got off to a good start. Inside five minutes, Smith first-timed a cross from Johnston and gave Macdonald no chance. Eleven minutes later Skene pushed home a second from point blank range. Ross County retaliated strongly and deserved the point when Newman scored with a magnificent shot. Within seconds Ferguson had the equaliser but to the chagrin of the players the score was nullified owing to an infringement for offside. The visitors' play suffered to some extent owing to this set-back, but half-time arrived without further scoring.
The second-half opened at a great pace, with the home team predominant. Inside five minutes they had increased their total to four. Laing got the first and the second was a joint effort by Tough and Johnston. This was somewhat an unusual goal. Both players rushed to pick up a loose ball. Both kicked simultaneously and the ball ballooned into the air before landing into the net. Feeling comfortable, Buckie slackened and Ross County had more of the game. They tried hard till the end but without success.
