Peterhead 4 Ross County 1

This game was vital to Peterhead and they put their best team forward. County won the toss and had the wind at their backs. In the first minute a corner was forced. Urquhart took the kick and Buchan miraculously stopped the ball on the goal line. Peterhead retaliated and Peacock gave Mackintosh a great opportunity when he sent the ball across County’s goalmouth. Mackintosh missed badly. Immediately after, Macdonald, who was substituting for Newton, threw himself full length to stop a strong shot from Mackintosh. Against the wind Peterhead were controlling the ball better than their opponents. The halves and forwards combined well and it was no surprise when Dickie flashed home a great shot from the edge of the penalty line. The home attack was giving the Ross County defence little peace and it was well that both Patience and the backs were in form. At the other end, Ferguson had a good try for the visitors, but Henry touched it over. At Macdonald’s goal the upright saved a Cruickshank’s shot. However, County kept plodding along and seven minutes before half time Spiers got the equaliser. This was negatived immediately after, Dickie converting a penalty given away by a back who tried to stop an Anderson drive.
Assisted by the wind, Peterhead had much the better of the exchanges in the second half, and goals by Anderson and Cruickshank made the final score Peterhead, 4; Ross County, 1.
