| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Huntly 2 Ross County 1 Huntly deserved their win. Their superiority was more than a score of 2 suggests. But the main fault of both teams was their inability to finish off good work in the open. Unfortunately the teams were under strength. Ross, Spiers and Urquhart (injured) were unable to travel with the County. Forsyth took Ross' place at right-back and Cameron, from Avoch, was re-instated at right-half. Macmahon and Lawson were introduced into the forward line. Huntly were without regulars McColl and Warnock. Five minutes after the start they had the misfortune to have A. Stewart injured, and although he limped on the line to the end, he was of little use. At the start, fast-tackling Ross County had the better of the exchanges, and in the 19th minute, Ferguson scored from a penalty, which had been given away while the Huntly defence was under extreme pressure. The home team was handicapped with the sun in their eyes, but a light ball played tricks with both sides. Near the close of this half, Shand beat Newton with a good header off a free kick taken by Cruickshanks. In the second half, Huntly assumed the mastery, and the Ross County defence were sore put to it to keep the eager Huntly forwards out. But Newton, Patience and Forsyth gave little away. The winning goal was scored by R. Maclennan and no one could grudge it. Lawson was the County best forward. Huntly's stalwarts were Barron and the two Maclennans. The referee was Mr D. Mackintosh, Inverness, who was complimented all round on his conduct of the game. He made very few mistakes and his positional work was very sound. |
