| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 5 Deveronvale 1 In summer weather and on a hard pitch, a large crowd of people enjoyed this game at Victoria Park, Dingwall, on Saturday. Play was slow in the opening stages, both teams apparently weighing each other up. For a time neither could claim the advantage. The visitors were the first to score, Robertson connecting with a cross from Stephen. It was a well-taken goal. This put spirit into the game and Ross County came more into the limelight. Gradually they assumed superiority and the Deveronvale defence were sorely tried. Hepburn stopped a shot with his head, while Allan was out of position. When he recovered Allan was just in time to grasp a scorcher from Clark. The latter was at fault when he failed at an open goal. It was all Ross County now. D. Cameron just missed with a header from a centre by his fellow clansman. He made sure in the next minute when he laid the ball at Ferguson's feet, who scored a well-deserved equaliser. Within two minutes Ferguson added a second when D. Cameron unselfishly transferred to him. Before half-time the centre-forward made his team's total three. Deveronvale continued the unequal struggle in the second half, Ferguson scored another to give him his hat-trick, and D. Cameron brought the total to five. Subsequently the County lay back, being content to hold their opponents. Ross County gave a satisfactory display but, with the exception of Glover, were not up against a strong defence. What pleased most was the display of D. Cameron, on his first appearance at centre-forward. He is employed at Lochcarron but is a player with considerable experience in the South. He has a strong shot and certainly knows where the goal is. |
