Caledonian FC 1 Ross County 0

Inverness Caledonian defeated Ross County by one goal to nil at the Telford Street Park, Inverness, on Saturday, in a return game in the Stuart Cup competition. To begin with Ross County pressed hard, and were playing in fine style, combining accurately and becoming dangerous at goal. However, the ground team’s defence was sound, and Macdonald, Wheeler and Waldie put up strong defensive work. Through time Caledonian rallied together and attacked, with Fox (inside right) and Holden (inside left) making valiant efforts to score, but failed, due to the expert handling of the ball by County’s goalkeeper, Thorpe. Play for a while swept from end to end, with both teams finding difficulty in controlling the ball, as the ground conditions were anything but desirable. The only goal that was scored came from Fox, Caledonian’s inside right, who sent home a penalty. In the second period Ross County tried hard to equalise the score and displayed better combination, with Ogilvie and Maclennan putting up a grand show, but the strong defence of the opposing team prevailed. The game became uninteresting and no more goals were scored, leaving Caledonian victors in what was undoubtedly a poor display of football. Mr T. Maclean refereed the game.
