Ross County 3 Inverness Thistle 0

Ross County fully deserved to pass into the final of the Ness Cup when they beat Thistle by 3-0 in the second game of this home-and-home semi-final match played at Victoria Park last Saturday. In the first game the County won by 5-3 at Kingsmills Park, Inverness, thus giving them a two-goal lead to start with. County fielded their full team with the exception of Urquhart. Craig, a new man to the team, took Forsyth's place and the latter moved to centre-half.
Thistle showed two changes in their team. Bisset displacing Macneil in goal and Skinner taking the place of Milne, who moved to right-half.
County started in great style, and Bisset was called upon to save on a few occasions. Thistle soon reversed the order of play and the County defence was in extreme danger, but Forsyth came to the rescue and cleared.
Following pressure on the County goal, Boal broke away for the County and had hard luck with a shot which went narrowly past. Bisset came to the rescue of Thistle early in the first half, during a scrimmage in which Moffat nearly had the ball over the line. Still pressing away, Thistle were again lucky when Nicol headed the ball against Bisset's legs.
County took the lead in the eighteenth minute through Nicol, who, accepting a beautiful cross from Sutherland, headed the ball hard into the back of the net. County again swept into the attack and Sutherland shot narrowly over the bar from well out. Bisset was kept busy in Thistle goal, and he did well to stop a high ball from Ross County's outside-right, Macbeth. Thistle forced the ball into the County half and Dennis broke away for goal, but was challenged by Craig, who cleared superbly. County once more came into the limelight, but Nicol shot harmlessly past from a Macbeth cross.
Thistle again took possession of the game, but their finishing was poor. Macaulay and Hossack both missed golden opportunities to score by shooting wildly past from close in. The County goal was in extreme danger again, but once more Forsyth came to the rescue by heading clear with Morritt well out of goal. From a cross from the wing, Thistle were unlucky not to score when Gillies dived full-length to head the ball narrowly past. Moffat, County's centre, brought Bisset into action with a header, and Nicol shot narrowly past when challenged by Bisset who, seeing that the backs were beaten, came out of goal to intercept Nicol's shot. County got their second goal through Moffat in the 44th minute, when he accepted a pass from Nicol and slapped the ball into the corner of the net, Bisset making a desperate full-length dive in an attempt to stop the ball.
When half-time came round the County were still pressing away at the Thistle goal, but there was no further scoring. Half-time result—Ross County, 2; Inverness Thistle, 0.
Thistle came on to the field in the second half determined to penetrate the County defence, but Boyle, Craig and Forsyth held their ground and never once did they waver. Morritt saved a tricky ball from Macaulay with ease, and Bisset was hard put to save a rasper of a shot from Macbeth. Thistle were awarded a free kick, but Milne shot harmlessly past from about 20 yards.
The Thistle goal had another narrow escape when Moffat, after slipping past the Thistle backs, just failed to beat Bisset to the ball as the Thistle custodian came out of goal to meet him. Morritt was brought into action once again, but he saved brilliantly from Kay and Gillies, who were the only real dangers to the County defence.
The rest of the game was played at a great pace, both teams attacking in turn. Five minutes from the end County got their third goal. Again it was Moffat who scored. It was a very simple-looking goal, which the Thistle custodian appeared to have well covered. County saw the remaining five minutes through by a continuous series of attacks on the Thistle goal, which had narrow escapes on two more occasions. Macbeth slammed the ball narrowly past, and Sutherland had hard luck when he lobbed the ball over the bar when challenged by Bisset.
For a Thistle forward line which had little or no punch, Kay and Gillies were hard workers, but they lacked co-operation; while in the defence Bisset was a fearless custodian and Mackenzie a stalwart back. For the County, Forsyth excelled at centre-half, while Boyle and Craig were conspicuous in the rear. In a superb attacking force Moffat starred, and Nicol and Boal were not far behind him.
