| Match Report | Report from the North Star. Inverness Thistle 3 Ross County 2 The last Emergency League game of the season took place in Grant Street Park, Inverness, on Wednesday evening, when Inverness Thistle played Ross County. The game ended in victory for the Thistle by 3 goals to 2. It was not thought that the game would attract a large gathering, as Thistle were at the top of the league and even a defeat would have made no difference to their placing. The County put up an excellent show and very nearly inflicted the first defeat on the Thistle. The game, indeed, was in the County’s favour throughout, and all played really good football. A grand goal by Gillies two minutes before the end gave Thistle the lead. Throughout the game the County had the better of the exchanges and at half-time led by 1-0. The County’s goal came after ten minutes’ play and was scored by Taylor off a Dennison cross. Shortly before half-time the visitors got a penalty, but Kay shot into Selwyn’s hands. Twenty-three minutes of the second half had gone when Nicol scored a second for Ross County, and again Dennison provided the cross. Gordon, Thistle’s new outside-left, who was playing a brilliant game, reduced the leeway with an oblique shot two minutes later. The equaliser came from Kay during a scrimmage in the goalmouth. Best for Thistle were Mackenzie Milne, Gillies and Gordon; and Ross County got good service from Hazel Coulthart. Dennison and Cumming. |
