| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Keith 1 Ross County 1 This game took place at Keith, Keith had the sun behind them in the first half and set the pace, but found themselves up against an effective defence. It was against the run of play when County took the lead. A penalty was awarded the visitors and Mackay made no error with the spot kick. Keith were ever on the attack, but it was nearly half-time before Scott got his chance. The visiting defence was wide open and when Scott raced through they held back for an unsuccessful appeal for offside. Scott gave Applegate no chance. For the remainder of the half, Keith battered the County goal, but the visiting defence made no more mistakes. In the second period the County started off with a rush, but soon were repulsed. For fifteen minutes Keith hammered the visitors' goal. Applegate brought off some great saves. Gradually the visitors began to assert themselves and it was Keith's turn to do the bulk of the defending. The home defence was not so sure of itself and Bremner more than once had to make daring saves. Keith had plenty of fight left in them and Scott, who was the live wire of the home attack, had one or two good tries. Keith defence was fairly sound, the halves defended well, but were rather ineffective in feeding the forwards, while the forwards could have made better use of their opportunities. The visiting defence cleared their lines better than the homesters and, while their forwards were more forceful, they had not the craft of the Keith players. A draw was a fair result. |
