Inverness Thistle 1 Ross County 2

Two valuable League points were collected by Ross County at Kingsmills Park, Inverness, on Saturday. The County, however, did not play like possible League champions, and their victory was a shade lucky.
They must take credit for the way in which their defence held out in the second half in the face of a blizzard of wind and rain—factors that did not trouble Thistle in the first half.
The game on the whole was slow, but for this the heavy ground and greasy ball must take some blame. At half-time Ross County led by one goal, Gillies scoring after a brilliant solo run, in which he tricked Macrae and Robertson, some ten minutes before the end.
A few minutes later Urquhart had the ball in the net for the County, but a previous infringement wiped out the point.
Playing in the teeth of the elements, the Ross County defence had an unenviable job in the second half, and the defenders kept a clean sheet until twenty minutes before the end, when Robertson equalised with a delightful long range drive.
The winning goal, which came seven minutes before the end, was hotly contested. To many in the stand and terracing it seemed that Gillies was well outside the penalty area when he was brought down by Macrae. The referee, however, awarded a penalty, and Mackay made no mistake with the kick.
Kay was Thistle’s most dangerous forward, with Macleod also a trier. In the half-back line, Robertson was easily best, while of the two backs Pyke was good, and kicked and tackled with fine effect. The veteran right back, O. Munro, was in grand fettle for Ross County, while, before he had to retire on account of an injury ten minutes before the end, Barrie did quite well. Mackintosh and Gillies were Ross County’s cleverest forwards, Gowl being too well watched by Macrae to be really effective.
