| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 2 Inverness Thistle 3 This game, which took place in the Inverness Cup competition at Dingwall, gave little indication of good football till late in the second half. Throughout the visitors were the more impressive and justly deserved their win. Their dominating man was Ballantyne at centre half, whose positional play and distribution of the ball to the wings was that of a master-mind. Ross County had no one to equal him, except Burnett, who gave a great defensive display at left back. Thistle scored the only goal in the first half, when late on Cameron beat Macneil after a melee in front of goal. Things livened up in the second half, when Gowl, after James Ross had shot, bundled Campbell and ball into the net. Cameron, centre-forward, beat Macneil a second time, but immediately Gowl equalised. Milne got the third when he drove into an empty goal, Macneil having come out. Ross County tried desperately to equalise towards the end, but all their efforts proved futile, although Mackay, Gowl, and Paterson had good tries, which the crossbar alone stopped. |
