Keith 2 Ross County 3

Ross County well earned their entry into the Scottish Cup competition proper, when they defeated Keith at Keith. Incidentally, it may be remarked that in their achievement they administered Keith's first defeat on their home ground and at the same time dismissed last year's Qualifying Cup finalists from the competition.
Keith never seemed to settle except for fifteen minutes at the close of the first half. Ross County settled down right away, although their goal had a narrow escape in the opening minute, when WMacneil had to concede a corner, but after that the exchanges were mostly in favour of the visitors.
The home defence was well stretched and it was no surprise when Gowl headed home the first goal. Ross County were in luck when Willox failed to get his foot properly on a ball and Gowl, who was in close attendance, fastened on and rap through to beat Bremner with a grounder.
This put Keith on their mettle and a hurricane attack swept the visitors into their own area and the homesters deservedly equalised, both goals being netted by Jamieson. On resuming Keith took the upper hand but their attacks were repulsed by a sturdy and sound defence.
Keith should have taken the lead in play and it was a surprise when Gowl, the opportunist, got his head on to a cross from J. A. Mackay and got the winning goal.
Keith threw everything into the attack, but Ross County were equally determined to hold on to their lead. The home backs came well up to try to force the pace, but to no purpose. With the backs well up the field the visiting forwards had more scope and several times they had a clear field and but for some fine saves by Bremner and poor finishing by the visiting forwards, Ross County might have had two or three more goals. What appeared to be a good goal by Gowl was chalked off for offside.
