Inverness Clachnacuddin 0 Ross County 5

Ross County returned to their winning vein by inflicting on Clachnacuddin their heaviest home defeat of the season. This long overdue victory might lead to the County regaining their best form, and a vast improvement in their position in the League table. The County were well served by their defence, and W. G. Ross made a grand impression on his debut as centre-half. Macdonald and Morgan Mackay were the best forwards, the latter scoring a well earned hat-trick.
Ross County won the toss and took advantage of a fresh breeze, while the Invernessians had to face a strong sun.
A fine cross by Mackenzie, of Clachnacuddin gave Murchison a chance, but the centre just failed to connect and Munro cleared. At the other end J. A. Mackay had a great run but finished weakly.
Within twelve minutes Ross County went ahead. Mackenzie sent in a long-range shot which it seemed certain would be cleared by the Clach keeper. The ball was fumbled, however, and M. Mackay ran in and scored.
Ross County were easily the more impressive team, particularly in defence, and soon got other two goals in quick succession. The first was a soft affair scored by Macdonald from a pass by J. A. Mackay. The second was a great drive by the same player, who was deservedly applauded by the crowd.
A goal seemed certain for the Invernessians when Murchison broke right through the defence, but once again he was thwarted by Macneil. A free kick by Lawson just outside the penalty area brought more danger to the County goal, but Macrae's try struck the wrong side of the net.
For a time the Dingwall defence was fully stretched and only the worst of luck prevented at least one goal for Clach. Wemyss put narrowly over the bar from a Lawson cross, and then Wemyss struck the upright with a great drive. The ball rebounded to Mackenzie who lofted it over the bar although he had an open goal and was within five yards of it. Very much the same thing happened when Mackenzie put over during a scrimmage at the goalmouth.
Another sensation was soon to follow. Wemyss was brought down within the penalty area, and Mackenzie took the spot kick and shot past. This reverse put more life into the Dingwall team and for the first time this half they went on the attack. Ross sent the ball upfield, and J. A. Mackenzie sent a fine drive into the goal. Mackenzie sent to M. Mackay who ran in to score. Right to the end Clach attacked, but although the shooting of their forwards was poor, luck again kept the ball from going through. On one occasion the ball swerved right across the open goalmouth, but nobody was there to put it through.
Five minutes from time M. Mackay got his hat-trick in an isolated Dingwall attack. He cleverly converted a cross from Mackenzie.
