| Match Report | Report from the North Star. Ross County 4 Keith 1 Ross County gained two valuable points at the expense of Keith in a league match at Victoria Park, Dingwall, on Saturday. As a team the County played much more convincingly than they have done since some weeks past. The forwards were in a brighter mood and Morgan Mackay again distinguished himself by securing a well-deserved hat-trick. The County centre invariably finds the net and if his clubmates were as effective the Ross-shire team's position in the league table would not be so lowly. The home backs Munro and Brindle maintained their best form by setting up a sound defence against Keith's attack, which showed some fine touches of good football, especially in the out-field. Priestly, the visitors' player-coach and centre-half, did a tremendous amount of good work, his third back tactics repeatedly saving his side from a heavier defeat. Pending the arrival of Macneil, Munro donned the "sweater" in the County goal. But when Macneil failed to turn up, Brett, the old County 'keeper, was pressed into service. Ere the arrival of Brett, the deputy did well, but he was decisively defeated by Morrison at close range. Keith showed superior form, and did the bulk of the attacking. County were pulled up for an off-side decision when J. A. Mackay was well-placed. Play continued to run on fairly even lines, but there was little life in the game, and excitement was almost negligible. Macdonald had a good try for the County, the ball going narrowly past. The equaliser was got by Morgan Mackay, and this had a tonic effect on the County team. They forced two corners in quick succession, but these proved fruitless. Sustained pressure by the home pack, however, had its reward, when J. A. Mackay gave them the lead. On the resumption Ross County again took up the attack, and several likely shots went narrowly past. Priestly, however, was in splendid form, and time and again cleared when all seemed lost. Keith were by no means finished as an attacking force, and Jamieson had two fine efforts which Brett saved well. For a period Keith hemmed Ross County into their own half, but in a home breakaway J. A. Mackay crossed a lovely ball which Morgan Mackay piloted into the net. A few minutes later the same player again beat Bremner with a fast, low shot. With a three-goal lead the County played with great confidence, and finished good winners. |
