| Match Report | Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Forres Mechanics 4 Ross County 3 Ross County had to go from home in their first League game, but the journey to Forres was a pleasant one. The robust play usually experienced when these teams meet was absent, with the result that the quality of the football was improved. Considering the weather, which was warm, play opened at a considerable speed and the ball travelled from goal to goal with strong kicks and quick following up. Disaster almost overcame the County when they gave away a penalty. Fortunately for them, Cowie failed to take advantage of it. Then Tarrell put the County one up, which was the score at half-time. Forres started the second half with great dash and within two minutes, they had reversed the position and were one up. Ding-dong play followed and both teams scored twice, which gave the Mechanics the victory by 4 goals to 3. It was deserved on play, apart from two penalties. Macrae and Anderson played a great defensive game for Ross County, and Macaulay was a tower of strength, both in defence and attack. He is a grand half-back. A. Ross did well in goal and he had much more to do than his vis-a-vis. Mackay, Mackenzie and Macdonald were good in the forward line. Tarrell, J. Ross and Macdonald got the goals. The home team was well served by Hillocks, but he had no luck. Dickie opened up the play well, but the backs were inclined to move up too far, leaving Forsyth unprotected. For a junior, he did well in goal. The Forres scorers were—Dickie, 2 (one penalty), and Hillocks and Calder. |
