Caledonian FC 6 Ross County 3

This match attracted a large crowd at Inverness and an interesting game was witnessed. The first half was fairly even as far as the scoring was concerned. Nevertheless, the home team played better football. Later, Caledonian were infinitely superior and eventually won easily by 6 goals to 3.
The County scored first through J. A. Mackay, who accepted his opportunity when a strong shot by Cumming saw the ball hit the crossbar and land at Mackay's feet. Within ten minutes, Kinnaird got the equaliser after Mackay had saved a brilliant effort by Mackintosh. End-to-end play followed, but Caley were the more persistent and gave Anderson and Urquhart a lively time. After 19 minutes, Davidson gave his team the lead, beating Mackay from short range. Mackintosh was injured and had to retire. Even then, County could not hold their opponents, who were always dangerous at goal. Main scored a third for the homesters. Ross County then put up a strong attack and for ten minutes hemmed in their opponents. Just on half-time, Mackay scored a second goal.
Mackintosh resumed at outside right after the turn-around. The County opened vigorously and both Bowie and Macaulay tested Mackenzie. Farrell had the nearest attempt when he struck the upright with Mackenzie out of his goal. At the other end, Mackay had great difficulty in clearing a shot by Kinnaird, who was the Caledonian’s best man on the field. Davidson raised his side’s total to four when he beat Urquhart on the run and sent in an oblique shot which beat Mackay. Within a minute, Lee followed with number five and Kinnaird, near the close, registered a sixth. Before the final whistle sounded, Bowie brought the County total to 3.
The weather conditions were against good football. Kinnaird and Davidson were outstanding for Caley, and Macrae and Macaulay for the County.
