| Match Report | Report from the North Star. Peterhead 4 Ross County 2 The reputation of being a “grand away team” has been associated with the name of Ross County since they entered Highland football. Such a tribute has been treasured but, unfortunately, one is almost forced to admit that lately the County’s performances have not been too convincing. In the past, a worthy win over strong opponents on their own playing field was no mere flash of brilliance but was repeated every Saturday afternoon, and earned as many points as were won at home. Then, this reputation did not only bring out due respect from Highland League teams, but it was instrumental in the County being rightly classified as one of the best “gate” attractions. One wonders if the visit of Ross County to the East Coast, etc., still has that magnetic power of drawing the “gate” of the season, or has the County’s influence to gather away crowds diminished in keeping with their present inconsistent record. In previous seasons, the Peterhead pitch has been a happy hunting ground, but last Saturday the County failed to please their supporters. With a strong breeze behind them in the first half, the County showed early promise and were able to retire at the interval with a lead of 2-0. Within five minutes after the resumption, the home side was on level terms, having scored twice. From that stage onwards, the East Coast side took a firm hold of the game and was thus able to register two further goals, which secured the victory and the points. |
