| Match Report | Report from the Fraserburgh Herald. Fraserburgh 4 Ross County 0 County were said to be dangerous, McGregor heading clear from under the bar. A little later Anderson had difficulty in disposing of a rocket shot. At the other end, following upon a corner, the Highlanders' goal ran a narrow escape. Fraserburgh were now pressing and a fine shot from Mitchell was saved at the cost of a corner. Another corner brought no advantage. In an attack by the County, Anderson had a couple of awkward shots to handle. Ten minutes from the start Fraserburgh opened the scoring. McGregor passed up the centre letting Bell clean away, and the centre forward gave Brett no chance with a shot that flashed into the corner of the net from ten yards. County made progress and Black failed with a difficult chance. After Anderson had dealt with several long shots, Fraserburgh got away and a shot from Bell was saved by Brett on the line. A fruitless corner followed, and County rattled Anderson, who was kept busy disposing of well-directed drives. A corner for Fraserburgh did not materialize, and County were soon testing Anderson again. At the other end Bell almost got another one, but Brett was having very little to do. On the resumption Fraserburgh obtained two fruitless corners, following which they were placed on the defensive for a spell. At the other end Bell failed with a hard chance and the kick was converted by a header from McGregor. With ten minutes gone Fraserburgh increased their lead. Following a corner accurately placed by Scott, Mitchell met it with a soft touch and Bell scrambled the ball into the net. With the scoring chances the County was getting, they were showing poor finishing. Brett saved from Bell at the rest of a corner, which did not materialize. Play was transferred to the other end, the game nothing away. Black sent in a beauty which Anderson fisted out at the expense of a corner. From the resulting kick Hendry sent a dropping shot into goalmouth. Brett partially cleared and Bell ran the ball into the net, and thus achieved his hat-trick. Following upon the kick sent in by Scott, McGregor passed to Taylor who, with a first time oblique shot, lashed the ball into the net. The prophets were confirming their reputation as prophets with regard to Fraserburgh. They told us that the Broch lads would probably receive a check from Ross County, but the Highlanders were not to get a single goal. They played the long swinging game that kept the opponents on the run for a while, but it was work that led nowhere; they were not given the ghost of a chance. Their forwards were weak in marksmanship and Anderson, although had to handle much more frequently than Brett, had plenty of time to deal with almost everything that came his way. George Bell, who achieved the hat-trick for the second time within a month, looks like becoming a prolific goal getter. He has speed and stamina that will make him a terror to any defence if he gets the right kind of service. McGregor knows the game, he proved that Saturday. The other forwards were useful without being brilliant and Taylor’s great shot in the final attack was a real rasper. The manipulation of the whole line is good. Fraserburgh has a grand half-line and in this match they were a thorn in the side of the opposing attack, playing steady, forcing games. Cheyne was as strong as Milne on Saturday, and that says a mouthful, and Anderson came out with a clean sheet. Ross County have several speed merchants, Black and MacPherson on the wing being among the number; but what shooting! The backs were sound and the most notable department. Fraserburgh are once more at the top of the Highland League, but they will have to give of their best at Inverness next Saturday to retain their position. Citadel is the only side that has beaten them this season and they will out for revenge. |
